Hepatitis - All about Hepatitis - ہیپاٹائٹس - جگر کی سوزش - Urdu Hindi - Dr. Harris Qureshi
Hepatitis is a viral infection that affects the liver, causing inflammation and potentially leading to serious health complications. There are several types of hepatitis, including hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D, and hepatitis E, each caused by different viruses.
Hepatitis A is primarily transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food or water. It can also spread through close contact with an infected person. The symptoms of hepatitis A may include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, jaundice, and dark urine. In most cases, the infection resolves on its own without specific treatment, although adequate rest and supportive care are essential.
Hepatitis B is transmitted through exposure to infected blood, semen, or other bodily fluids. It can be contracted through sexual contact, sharing needles, or from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth. Hepatitis B can lead to chronic liver disease and increase the risk of liver cancer. Symptoms of acute hepatitis B are similar to those of hepatitis A, while chronic hepatitis B may be asymptomatic or present with more severe liver-related symptoms. Vaccination is available for hepatitis B and is an effective preventive measure. Antiviral medications may be prescribed to manage chronic hepatitis B.
Hepatitis C is primarily transmitted through contact with infected blood. It is commonly spread through sharing contaminated needles among people who inject drugs. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact or from an infected mother to her child. Hepatitis C often progresses to chronic infection, leading to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer over time. Many people with chronic hepatitis C are asymptomatic, but some may experience fatigue, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Direct-acting antiviral medications have revolutionized the treatment of hepatitis C, offering high cure rates and fewer side effects.
Hepatitis D, also known as delta hepatitis, occurs only in individuals who are already infected with hepatitis B.
Hepatitis E is primarily transmitted through the consumption of contaminated water or food, particularly in areas with inadequate sanitation. It can also spread through direct contact with an infected person. Hepatitis E is usually a self-limiting disease that resolves within a few weeks or months. However, pregnant women, especially in their third trimester, are at an increased risk of severe complications. There is no specific treatment for hepatitis E, so supportive care is provided to manage symptoms and promote recovery.
