For the winter trickling treatment of broodless colonies, crystal sugar must be added to the solution. The mixed sugar solution has the optimum concentration of 3,5% oxalic acid dihydrate. Oxalic acid acts as a contact poison on the varroa mite, which is why it can only be used in colonies.
