Dead and Live Syllables | คำเป็นคำตาย
There are 9 ending sounds in Thai: ก /k/, บ /p/, ด /t/, น /n/, ม /m/, ย /y/, ว /w/, ง /ng/ and the one without an ending consonant. The first 3 sounds (/k/, /p/, /t/) make a dead syllable. The rest makes a live syllable. As for the one without an ending consonant, it depends on whether it's a long or a short vowel sound (short = dead, long = live).
