Crested Butte, CO - Mountain Biking Teocalli Ridge.
10 years ago, I gazed off of the summit of 14er Castle Peak towards Teocalli Mountain, but I never thought I would be riding a mountain bike on the adjacent ridge for Youtube content. Funny how a decade of searching for gold would lead me here. Teocalli Ridge had been on my agenda since watching Nate Hills version of the ride with EWS rider Richie Rude and the formally Yeti Tribe gathering. I decided to spool up a Yeti of my own and take a spin on Teocalli Ridge.
I believe Teocalli Ridge is a shared moto track and the nature of the track was reminiscent of one. It was blown out with alot of chewy dirt. Conditions were so off with chalk over loose hardpack making for a very difficult climb. However, the design of the trail on the downhill negated those effects with long and predictable turns. Expect lots of chunk and short gains in elevation on the primary downhill. The second half is fast and steep with lots of medium sized turns. The Trail speaks and it will let you know when those are coming. I was pretty excited to see a Mormon cricket, elk, and sharp tailed (?) grouse along the way.
