Quick demo of cutting tree limbs...one deadwood & one greenwood. This exercise is quite mellow dramatic compared to the many videos on YouTube Where we are enlightened by the many "experts" using their knives to split large diameter logs by battening. Which is accomplished by beating the knife's spine & edge straight into the piece of wood. This method of splitting could ultimately destroy the knife by dulling the blade, chipping the knife edge, or a catastrophic failure...perhaps endangering the user, or bystanders. Instead of utilizing the correct tools such as an Ax or Tomahawk, both are more efficient for cutting & splitting. Of course there are times when Battening wood is totally necessary....when the right circumstances present themselves. When it is snowing, iced up, extreme wet weather, where getting to the dry wood inside is crucial, or when you have no other tool but a knife.
