The courtly intrigues led to the death of the King Robert Baratheon and the consequent succession crisis leads to the beginning of the War of the Five Kings. The Star heir Robb - the Young Wolf is eager to save his father Eddard and so he marches south, leading to the battles of Green Fork and Whispering Wood and of the Camps against the house of Lannister (   • Rise of the Young Wolf - War of the Five K...  ). That battle was pivotal and changed the flow of the war. Despite difficulties, Daenerys manages to build an empire in Essos by taking over a number of cities.
