I have had a book about Jamerson that is full of transcriptions by current great bassists. It is also full of the history and analysis of Jamerson's playing.
I worked on this song for weeks. Considering how long I have been playing, I am completely blown away at the incredible skill and musical genius Jamerson possessed. He composed his part based only on being given chord changes. After learning it to get it ready for the video, I struggled to get it right when I hit record. I found that I still had to practice certain phrases to get them. So recording the video took multiple passes over TWO days! By the time I got the take I kept, the track in logic said #49. I had started and stopped at least 49 times!!
Gear used: Fender P, 70's - (I on a quest)
Recorded in Logic - I used E.Q. and compression to simulate Jamerson's sound.
Recorded and mixed with Universal Audio: Apollo Twin
