Once again organized by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington (fsgw.org), this year's show brought a variety of culturally-rooted artists to Glen Echo, Maryland. Lively Irish reels and jigs produced by the Irish Inn Mates (Mitch Fanning, Jesse Winch, Tina Eck and Patrick Winch) accompanied talented step dancers from the Culkin School. For more stepping, Furia Flamenca's passionate southern Spain flamenco troupe appropriately stamped the floor of the Spanish Ballroom. Then came Hawaiian hula by Halau Ho'omau I ka Wai Ola O Hawai'. Calming and imaginative tunes from the Washington Toho Koto Society were played on six-foot long stringed instruments. Another society, the Washington Balaika Society, brought dozens of musicians to the stage to perform memorable tunes. The Sweater Set duo sang their songs of contemporary love. There was much more to experience but not enough time to get it recorded. We hope you enjoy this sample of the event.
