This new OTV (On The Vehicle) brake lathe, was warehouse unused, since being manufactured in June 2007. After I rebuild run-out head assembly in Oct 2022. The OTV Brake Lathe was tested, which at first was less than perfect. But now, for the first time since being manufactured, its cutting perfectly. Machining rotor disk to less than .001" run-out. Before rebuilding the run-out head, it could not hold a steady run-out. It was assumed, over-time, the rubber seals effectiveness to seal and thus hold oil pressure. That rubber deteriorated due to age related loss of plasticize from the rubber O-rings. Which was found to be the case, in part! But what keep from working form day one, until now. Was metal chips (shaving/strings), both steel and aluminum were found in run-out head assemblies main body. These metal shavings were damaging O-rings, keeping them from sealing properly. Metal shavings, were crossed over one of the main adjuster screws o-rings. This resulted in a pressure loss. Apparently these metal shavings/strings, were from assemblers' failure to follow manufacturing procedure. Which was to "clean chips before assemble". Additionally, the two brass bearings retainer plates', 6 set (3 each side) screws. Had not been tightened as specified in assembly procedure. It's apparent this ~$13K Ammco deluxe OTV Lathe sat for 15 years, without anyone taking the time to asses why in would not hold run-out and correct.
