In 2023, a 32GB DDR5 RAM kit cost $100. Today? Over $340. And that price is continuing to rise.
The RTX 5090 launched at $1,999. Analysts are now predicting it could hit $5,000 by the end of 2026.
Entry-level gaming PC builds that cost $650 two years ago now start at $750 to $1,000. And that's if you can find the parts.
Meanwhile, Sony raised the PS5 price to $550. Microsoft pushed the Xbox Series X to $599. Nintendo launched the Switch 2 at $449.
And I'm here to tell you—the 2025 console price hikes weren't a reaction to the Trump tariffs, though many companies and news outlets claimed them to be so. I believe, now, they were precursors. I believe the console manufacturers knew this shortage, whether artificial or not, was coming. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo positioned themselves ahead of it. And now they will try to capture an entire generation of gamers who will be priced out of building PCs.
My friends, this might sound crazy, but if these console companies played their cards right, we could see a console renaissance. Let’s talk about it.
