Omeo Loop -- Omeo Hwy, Lake Rd, Happy Valley, Great Alpine Rd

Day 3 – Victoria Ride
We often use the phrase “that’s the best day’s riding” and we used it again today.

Another 34° day saw us make an early morning start on Australia’s best road — the Omeo Highway which is still in great condition even though there are a number of pothole hazards still needing repair. Our run was magnificent and we stopped behind the Mitta Pub for our first break on my favourite road.

We took Lockhearts Gap Road towards Tallangatta where we had morning tea before tracing Lake Hume on Lake Road which was a most beautiful ride — totally recommended! There is approximately 8km of easy, quality dirt which helps make this ride so good (and most is sign-posted as 100km/h).

Gundowring Road is always the perfect route to Mount Beauty but today we detoured over to ride the genuine Mt Granya challenger — Happy Valley Road! This was a fantastic ride we did as an out-and-back (because once isn’t enough)! Toni suggested it was her new favourite road.

After lunch at Mount Beauty, we dunked the hydration vests and took on another favourite, Tawonga Gap Road. Little traffic helped ensure this would be a lot of fun.

Then it was over Hotham where the temperature dropped to 16° to add to the enjoyment of this Aussie icon. Light traffic saw cars courtesly pull over for us to ensure we had a great run back to Omeo to complete our Omeo loop — another best day’s riding!
