The Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere appeared before the Jinja Magistrates Court amid heavy security. He was brought in along with 139 other suspects in the November Kasese attacks which left at least 100 people dead-including some security officers.
Omusinga Mumbere and the other suspects are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, terrorism and treason.
The suspects were produced in the Jinja Chief Magistrate's court to hear the committal of their case to the High Court, which is the only court with the jurisdiction to try such cases.
However, the prosecution called for an adjournment saying that the committal papers were not ready and investigations were still on-going.
The legal team of Omusinga Mumbere, led by Caleb Alaka, accused the state of violating the rights of the suspects and deliberately refusing to bring 13 of the said suspects before court. The suspects' lawyer also accused the State of taking the case lightly.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the state to produce the suspects in the next sitting or release them without charge.
