For more than 800 years the Percy family have been associated with Northumberland, building their home at Alnwick Castle. Since 1760 they have built an enduring relationship with the Northumberland Infantry regiments as they have changed titles from the 5th of Foot to the Northumberland Regiment, the Northumberland Fusiliers, the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and since 1968 the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
In the film Colonel the Lord James Percy describes his family history and how Alnwick Castle has developed a deep connection with the Fusiliers. Serving as an honorary Colonel, he relates how Northumberland has sent its soldiers off to fight and how that has built strong roots across the local community.
The Fusiliers Museum Northumberland is now based in Alnwick Castle just by the lawn famous for where Harry Potter first learned to fly his broom.
This film is a part of Fusilier Stories, a project by The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to gather and tell stories of life in and across the regiment. It provides a view into a British infantry regiment going beyond the raw history of when and where the battalions served.
