"H.E.R.O." (which in this context stands for "Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operation") was a late-release Atari 2600 game from Activision, a company behind many of the great Atari games. It hit shelves in 1984, after the infamous 1983 market crash, and before Nintendo resurrected the market in 1985. It also came to many other consoles and computers, and was later included in some of those Activision compilation discs for the PlayStation 2 and whatnot, but we're going to see how the original holds up! It's is an interesting game, with maze elements, freedom of movement in all directions, and goal-oriented gameplay reminiscent of "Metroid," which it predated.

All game footage in this review was captured using an OEM Atari 2600 console (1986 "junior" model with composite mod), authentic "H.E.R.O." game cartridge, and Elgato Game Capture HD.
