A Carpet Fragment in Space – A Journey Beyond Earth
A project by Sent Into Space in collaboration with the Museum for Islamic Art, Berlin

A small fragment with a powerful story takes flight: As part of the CulturalxCollabs initiative, ‪@Sentintospace‬ launched a carpet fragment #32 from the Pergamon Museum on a remarkable journey through the clouds and into the stratosphere.
What may seem like a futuristic art project is also a deeply moving symbol of connection and remembrance. The launch site: a former World War II runway which was once a place of destruction is now the starting point for a hopeful, transnational vision.
The carpet fragment is part of a re-woven 17th century Caucasian dragon carpet that was destroyed during the second world war. Floating through space against the backdrop of Earth, the carpet fragment invites us to reconsider the way we see our world. From its perspective at an altitude of 120,000 feet, the divisions between us are insignificant against the luminosity of our collective existence. This transformative perspective urges us to look beyond individual boundaries and recognize that, like the threads woven into the carpet, we are all interconnected.
