Marathi Supporters Stage Dharna in Panaji, Demand Official Status for Marathi


Marathi supporters staged a dharna protest in Panaji demanding official language status for Marathi and condemning its exclusion from government recruitment examinations.

Protesters expressed anger over what they termed as continued neglect of the Marathi language and vowed not to remain silent until Marathi is officially recognized alongside Konkani.

Prominent Marathi activist and educationist Prof. Subhash Velingkar joined the protest, lending strong support to the movement. Demonstrators raised slogans asserting Marathi pride and urged the Goa government to amend recruitment policies to include Marathi as an eligible subject.
