When an NBA All Star sets a WORLD RECORD - The Story of Devin Harris | FPP

When you think of some of the fastest players in transition, the more recent guys like a prime Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, or even a younger LeBron James come to mind, but there was a less appreciated guard in the late 2000s who officially captured the title of fastest man with a basketball. Devin Harris set a Guinness World Record at All-Star weekend for going baseline to baseline the fastest, but he was at All-Star weekend for a reason as a first time All Star in the middle of the greatest season of his career. He had skyrocketed his stock after a great junior season with the Wisconsin Badgers, then joined a Dallas Mavericks team led by Dirk Nowitzki, who had just lost Steve Nash to the Phoenix Suns, so Harris had big shoes to fill, and he would do well with the limited opportunity he was given. His next stop was the New Jersey Nets, and while he got a much better opportunity, he was still following up another future hall of famer in Jason Kidd, so it was again a tall task, and there wouldn't be much success in New Jersey before he was traded to the Utah Jazz and was again taking over for an All-NBA point guard in Deron Williams. Eventually, he would return to Dallas, but his best years were behind him and he settled into a solid member of the rotation for the next half-decade. So Devin Harris had an interesting career, as no matter how well he played, he always looked like a step down in comparison, and with injuries doing him no favours, his prime was short and you always wondered how good he could have been. But an NBA All-Star and the fastest man with a basketball is still pretty good.
