Rajasthani Food: Bejar Roti, Aloo Pyaaz, Boondi Raita in Mahaveer Rabri Bhandar, Jaipur

It was our first day in Jaipur, and we were truly exhausted after exploring a few fascinating places. But it wasn’t just fatigue that plagued us; hunger had also set in. So, we decided to visit a restaurant we had heard a lot about. However, fate had other plans. We practically sprinted to the restaurant, only to discover that it was incredibly tiny and, dare I say, suffocating. We exited faster than we had entered.

Undeterred, we hatched a new plan: ask the locals. With confidence, we approached them and inquired, “Where can we find authentic Jaipur cuisine?” Their recommendations led us to several restaurants, but alas, they all served Punjabi food. Still, we persisted, asking more and more people until we received a familiar response. You probably already know what they said.

And so, we found ourselves at a place offering the…drumroll please…“Silver Thali.” Now, before you imagine us dining off actual silver plates (as Rajasthan’s elite might…not), let me clarify. The name is purely symbolic! Our menu included:

Bejar Roti: Not to be confused with Bajra Roti, another type of bread enjoyed in Rajasthan.

Aloo Pyaaz: A dish combining potatoes (Aloo) and onions (Pyaaz), with a surprise addition of Paneer…dude, you're not supposed to be here!

Boondi Raita: A delightful blend of Boondi (a sweet snack) and Raita (a side dish made with yogurt).

Achaar Ke Tapore: Please refrain from calling it “Tapori”!
