Could Nick Reiner successfully use an insanity defense? Some insight into how this works from a psychiatric evaluator's perspective, including possible reasons Nick Reiner would not likely be successful and what it would take to make this type of defense successful. Nick allegedly murdered his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. Widespread reports say Nick was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and had co-occurring drug use issues. Out of respect for the family's request to speculate with a lens of compassion, I will not be speaking much to Nick's background or family relationships, but will give insight into why his diagnoses don't necessarily mean he isn't criminally responsible.
