Are the Jade Heads of Hanupah cursed? Why are these valuable pieces missing from the museum just days before the opening on the Mayan Exhibition? Is Svenja Akerstrom, the archeologist, hiding information? What is the excavation assistant hiding in his briefcase? Join TKKG to solve this mystery and learn about this intriguing ancient civilization.
Review by www.parents-choice.org:
If the only mystery in this latest release from Tivola was figuring out who stole the ancient Mayan masks from the museum just days before the new exhibition was to open, no problem. But this rather standard, crime-and-solve, detective adventure poses other mysteries -- like why is the animation so stiff and two-dimensional? Or why does solving the crime become a redundant exercise? Oh, righto, and one more mystery: Why are American kids subjected to English accents that grate after awhile?
Not that this isn't a good mystery that would keep a budding Sherlock busy for hours. The four teenage gumshoes evolve nicely into distinct and likeable-enough personalities as, one by one, each conducts his investigation, searching for evidence while aiming predetermined questions at suspects and witnesses. Plus, there's educational value beyond the problem solving, observation skills and logic required: Whenever the youthful sleuths talk to Dr. Akerstrom in the museum, for instance, they get another quick brush with the history and geography of the Mayan civilization. The answers don't come easily; this case is tough enough to crack that some players will no doubt scurry to the hints in the help file. But following Tivola's recent top-notch title, "The Little Prince," this mystery lacks the charm and fascination by comparison. And, once solved, the replay value is zero.
