We arrive in Lisbon around 6am local time after a relatively brief 6 hour flight. The plane was half empty which enabled us to spread out and sleep for a few hours. From the airport we drove into the city in a rental car. We had a very vague idea where to go. It took us an hour of smelling burning rubber when we finally realized that the emergency brake was activated. Considering we had never been there before we did pretty well finding a hotel. At first we thought we might drive up to Porto, Wisely we stayed and spent a day in wonderful, poetic Lisbon. We walked down the Avenue of liberty to St, George's castle. From the castle we walked back down into the marketplace and back up the other side to have lunch on the Duke's Staircase. Later we went to a Fado restaurant where unfortunately I was too timid to video. I had a wonderful stew and the red wine put me in touch with all the mariners who left this port over the ages. I saw the ocean at night and my spirit was floating above it guided by the Woman singing the Fado.. I was proud to have made the journey to an ancient embarking point.
