Proverbs 16 answers a foundational question of faith: How much does God actually control—and how much is on us?
This chapter makes something very clear: we make plans, but God directs outcomes. We commit our work, but God establishes purpose. Even what appears random is not outside His reach.
In Proverbs chapter 16, verses 1, 3, 4, 7, 9, and 33 show us a deeply involved God:
We may plan our words, but the Lord establishes the answer
When we commit our work to Him, He orders the results
God works all things for His purpose
He brings peace even with adversaries
A person plans their path, but the Lord directs their steps
The lot is cast, but the outcome belongs to the Lord
This devotional reflection explores the balance between responsibility and surrender. God is not asking us to stop planning—He’s asking us to submit our plans to His sovereignty. Proverbs 16 reminds us that wisdom is not control; it’s trust.
