Fresh and evocative setting of the traditional French carol "Quelle est cette odeur agréable" (Whence is that goodly fragrance flowing?). This specific arrangement was written by Vidthyan Vasanthan, a talented member of The Merbecke Choir, bringing a unique and personal connection to this performance.
The carol, which dates back to the 17th century, tells the story of the shepherds in the fields who are awakened by a heavenly fragrance and a brilliant light, leading them to the manger in Bethlehem. Vasanthan’s arrangement breathes new life into the classic melody, utilising the rich acoustics of the cathedral to highlight the gentle mystery and eventual joy of the Nativity story.
