“From One Till Two” was a light-hearted fox-trot/pop song from the early 1920s, written during the height of the jazz-age dance-craze era. Like many songs of the post-WWI decade, it focused on romance, nightlife, and playful courtship—themes that fit perfectly with the new social freedoms of the Roaring Twenties.
It was written in a dance-friendly fox-trot rhythm, which was hugely popular between 1918 and 1927.
Songs in this style were commonly recorded for piano rolls and played on home player pianos, which were a central form of living-room entertainment at the time.
Harmonically, it follows the cheerful, upbeat patterns common to Tin Pan Alley compositions.
