If you're planning to ride the iconic red double-decker buses in London, it's important to know that cash is not accepted. You'll need to have an Oyster card, Travelcard, or contactless payment card to pay for your ride. A single bus fare costs £1.75 and if you plan to travel by bus all day, the maximum you'll need to pay is £5.25.
One of the best things about riding the bus in London is that you can transfer to other buses or trams for free and as many times as you need to within an hour of touching in for your first journey. This means that you can easily explore different parts of the city without worrying about the cost of transportation.
It's also worth noting that all of the bus routes are served by low-floor vehicles with a dedicated space for one wheelchair user and an access ramp. If you require assistance, the driver or fellow passengers will be happy to help you. Buses can also be lowered to reduce the step-up from the pavement.
Finally, it's common for Londoners to show their appreciation to the bus driver when alighting from a bus. A simple “thank you driver.”
