A game without any hidden stuff or at least a little of a secret is a half-made game, in my opinion. Not only bringing up some sort of a replay value, which, by the way, every game should have, but also giving the player that indescribable feeling of exhilaration and anxiety. Many games have different understanding for this feature. In the Crash Bandicoot universe, we have it in the form of lives. They are an essential part of the game so it's only fitting that they were given such privilege. Personally, I think Naughty Dog could have done a bit more with this, for 100+ levels, that is. Regardless, even the smallest amounts can have a huge impact on the game and the experience of the player. At the end of the day, that is the most important thing.
