This week on the Pioneers in Aged Care podcast, I'm joined by Fabio Maya, CEO of For Purpose Aged Care, for our 39th episode.

Fabio discusses the recent rebranding from Signature Care and shares insights from a career that represents a lifelong immersion in the sector. His connection to aged care started in childhood, as he grew up living on-site at his father's nursing home, where the residents became like surrogate grandparents. This upbringing shaped his path, leading him to become a Registered Nurse and, later, to own and run his own family-operated aged care home.

We discuss the vision behind For Purpose Aged Care, a social impact organization focused on providing quality care while giving back to the community. Fabio details their growth plans to expand from 15 homes to a target of 5,000 beds nationally. He also explains their in-house model for construction, which includes their own architects and engineers, allowing them to manage the design and build process for their new homes efficiently.

Looking to the future, Fabio discusses the technology they are implementing, from falls radar to a 'Care Direct' system designed to reduce documentation time for staff. He also provides his perspective on industry challenges, including his views on care minutes and a proposal for a new, specialized "Aged Care Registered Nurse" role to help address workforce shortages.
