Thoughts:
This was naval gameplay on Supreme Strait with the geo-side spawn.
Nothing special, just my fast shipyard geo-side opener, with communication to my team to secure t2.
At 7:30, a light attack from blue came and demonstrates why a fast opener matters -
If my shipyard was still constructing, like if I had taken an extra 20-30 seconds to grab those 3 mexes, then blue would've been able to shutdown my construction.
Really, any good enemy navy player will attempt this early spawn-camp aggression, it's standard.
At 7:45, realized a bit of a flop on my opener, as there was no way I could've afforded an early energy storage, so I cancel that, wasting some build time.
At 11:00, I think I have more control than I actually do, and overextend, losing some early units to a submarine.
This leads into 11:30, where I lost an early engagement decisively.
I need destroyers to counter the subs, but I lacked the dolphins to counter everything else due to the earlier error.
At 12:45, blue made a decent play, but it could've been stronger.
What happened was that he got into my economy, hitting my energy converters and nanoturrets, and I just barely had enough time to react due to radar coverage.
What could've happened was that, if he had not included the dolphins in that attack, his Skater's stealth property would've been more suprising, leading to a slower response.
Still a decent play by him, but it allows me some breathing room.
At 15:20, blue sends in his commander towards my sea base.
I have to take the trade with my commander with minimal army loss, because I'm already down.
Right after the commander trade, his army swooped in.
We're even on dolphins and he had 1 cruisers and 1 sub to each of my assault frigates.
I should've lost on paper, but due to minor mis-management by blue, I was able to win with better flanking, killing multiple dolphins quickly.
As the wrecks were on my half, I was able to reinforce quicker and denied his reclaiming.
Post-battle, I moved out to clear some mexes and radar towers, but I'm unable to spend metal as quickly as I want to due to energy constraints.
At 19:00, I begin an attack on blue's base. However, I notice that he's now on a t2 shipyard.
I queued up many dolphins in an attempt to overwhelm him, but his t2 cruiser and restarted t1 dolphin production are enough to stop a decisive blow.
I was still able to destroy the t2 shipyard, but he's building an AFU in the background too and my attack is driven back.
I have a decent metal supply, I could've gone for T2 ships here, but I decided a seaplane strike might lead to a quicker kill and take the chance.
At 23:15, I sent what I had, but the seaplane strike was not enough.
My shipwrecks were at blue's base and I lost my unit advantage, so things were definitely not going my way at this point.
I reclaimed the seaplane lab and attempt to form a t2 ship army of mainly cruisers to see if I could hold on at all.
At 31:00, orange sent a large bombing wave and destroyed blue's AFU.
Despite this significant hit, blue's standing army was still too large to handle, and I was unable to follow-up.
At 32:00, blue used his dolphin heavy army vs my battleship and cruiser amy, and I was able to trade somewhat decently.
Part of this was because blue spent 6k metal on missile cruisers, which are good units, but not good for naval control.
At 33:30, my army felt large enough that I attempted to split off a smaller raiding group and probe for an opening.
Blue responded appropriately so I begin to disengage. However, while I'm retreating, teal begins torpedo bombing my ships due to my lack of aa.
I lost ~8 of my 13 cruisers and battleships from the attack, before orange is able to clear the skies.
At 38:50, blue had an overwhelming force and teal torpedoed my fleet uncontested, pushing me out of the sea.
I did /take the units of another player on my team, but we lost control of both seas and the strait, so the game's over.
Obvious things I could've done better:
Seaplanes on Supreme Strait are a gambit that does not pay off often.
Torpedo bombers become a threat the longer the game goes on and t2 anti-air should be added progressively rather than as a reaction.
Energy production and build power needs to be higher as the demand can dramatically shift with how much metal can be reclaimed per ship.
Overall, this was a pretty solid for both me and my opponent, but I made the above three errors at some point and blue didn't.
