First and foremost, I want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I really hope Ducy Claus and/or Santa Claus were good to all of you, and I also want to thank you all for an AMAZING 5 YEARS on YouTube!!! I really appreciate the support from each and every one of you, it really means a lot, and I am very thankful for the friends I've made here, some (hopefully most) of which I'll probably have for the rest of my life. Its' allowed me to connect with many people with similar interest and struggles, something I was never able to do in my entire life until I came on here. So at the bottom of my heart I want to say, THANK YOU for a GREAT 5 YEARS on YouTube, and I also want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
As for the video, as far as elevators go, this year hasn't been my best one for finding cool elevators unfortunately, but hopefully this video makes up for it as I haven't done Public Transit in quite a while. I really enjoyed making this video, and I really hope this makes up for my lack of having a super awesome elevator to upload this Christmas, and my goal is to start doing more Public Transit as well as other transportation related things in the New Year.
Anyways, to Celebrate this Christmas Season, we have some AMAZING Streetcars to ride!!! But not just ANY Streetcars, they are the TECO Streetcars ran by Hillsbourough Area Regional Transit System, that go from Downtown Tampa to Ybor City in Tampa, Florida. I know I tend to knock on Central Florida for not having much in terms of public transit, but hey, at least we got this!!!
The Streetcars both look and feel Historic and are an absolute TON of fun!!! But interestingly enough, these Streetcars were actually built in 2000-2002 by the Gomaco Trolley Company, and even though the current Streetcars and Streetcar line seen here only dates back to 2002, these aren't the first streetcars in Tampa as Tampa had Streetcars from 1885 up until 1946-1949 but that system was removed unfortunately. However, when the current system was built, Gomaco designed these Streetcars to look like the Historic Electric Birney Cars that originally ran many years ago (from around 1923-1946), 9 of these new replicas were built, and believe it or not, they actually RETROFITTED the OLD CONTROLS from Actual Historic Streetcars into these Modern Birney Replicas!!!! Even though these Streetcars may be modern, they did very tasteful job in terms of building them, and with a Top Speed of 40 MPH, they are an absolute BLAST to ride in!!!
In Addition to the 9 Gomaco Birney replicas such as the one in the video, there is also a Gomaco Designed "Breezer" OPEN BENCH Car, as well as a Restored ORIGINAL Birney Car from 1923 that was part of the ORIGINAL System!!!! Unfortunately, neither of these cars were running the day I took this video, but the Gomaco Birney Replicas are still AMAZING and SUPER COOL Nontheless and still look and feel VERY HISTORIC!!!! Don''t worry, I do plan on filming the Breezer and the Actual Historic Birney Car from 1923 (which is actually Florida's only operational Historic Streetcar) when they are in use in the future.
But in the meantime, MERRY CHRISTMAS, THANK YOU for 5 GREAT YEARS, and enjoy the video of the AMAZING & FUN & EXCITING 2002 Gomaco Birney Replica TECO Streetcars, with a full trip from Downtown Tampa to Ybor City!!! The particular car I rode in this video was Birney Replica Car #7.
