In this video I show you how I make a Satin Slip Skirt by cloning a Skirt that I currently have.
The steps are as follows:
- Fold the skirt in half (the long way) side seams together and lay it out on my pattern paper.
- Trace the entire skirt, then add the seam allowance (¼ inch) to the skirt outline. I added fold lines to my pattern paper, then labeled my pattern.
- Cut out pattern paper.
- Lay pattern on top of fabric (placing fold of fabric on fold lines). Make two cuts: skirt front and skirt back.
- Place the skirt front and back together (right sides together).
- Pin the side seams of the skirt.
- Serge the side seams of the skirt.
- Serge top and bottom of the skirt (approximately ¼ inch seam allowance).
- With the right sides together of the skirt, turn down (to the wrong side of the skirt) the top edge of the skirt ¼ an inch.
- Pin elastic (I used 2 inch elastic) around the skirt waist, by placing the elastic on the seam edge of the skirt waist.
- Stitch the elastic to the skirt using a zig zag stitch. I used a stitch length and stitch width of 1.5.
Note: remember to close the ends of the elastic together using a zig zag stitch.
- Stitch down the elastic to the side seams of the inside of the skirt to help keep the elastic down.
- Press the band with an iron to help lay the waistband down.
- Turn the skirt hem under ¼ inch and top stitch.
