Sally Baby's Silver Dollars perform their original song "Goodnight Miss Lulu White" in the 9th ward of New Orleans, LA for the 2025 NPR Tiny Desk Contest.
Lulu White was a brothel madam at the turn of century in New Orleans. Although her life came to a tragic end, she did many incredible things with her life including taking legendary pianist Tony Jackson and later, Jelly Roll Morton, under her wing. She could very well be pointed too as one of the original inspirations for the creation of jazz yet her story has been all but lost outside the streets of this city.
Salvatore Geloso aka Sally Baby is not only a songsmith writing many brilliant and captivating songs that transcend genre. But also a historical tour guide here in the French Quarters with a deep fascination for the “how we got to now.” They weave deep knowledge of culture, human experience, and history into their tours as well as in their music and this song is one of their finest examples.
In the age of fast food, fast fashion, fast everything...here is one you simmer like a stew. Thanks to everyone who has supported us since our first video last year, much love!
