After Avatar Meher Baba dropped His body on January 31, 1969, a few days later, Mehera and Mani sat together in Baba’s bedroom, reflecting on the sudden and unexpected nature of His departure.

Mehera: (with a tone of regret) “Baba didn’t leave us any message... any instructions.”

Mani: (gently, as if remembering something important) “Yes, He did. Early on the morning of the 31st, He had that board with Hafiz’s couplets brought in.”

(They walk over to the board and read the three couplets together.)

Befitting a fortunate slave, carry out every command of the Master
without any question of why and what.

About what you hear from the Master, never say it is wrong, because, my dear, the fault lies in your own incapacity to understand him.

I am the slave of my Master, who has released me from ignorance; whatever my Master does is for the highest benefit to all concerned.

Mehera: (reflectively) “Yes, this is His message to us.”
