NTA Clarification on OCI Eligibility | April 2023
OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India) have been treated at par with NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) as far as medical admission is concerned. It meant that they were eligible to apply for NRI seats as well as general seats. This was the practice until 2020. A notification from the Union Government of India in March 2021 has changed everything. OCIs were left only with NRI seats. They were not allowed to apply under government quota or management quota seats. They were not even allowed to apply under management quota in deemed universities.Being affected, several OCI candidates approached the Courts for relief. The 2021 batch students got an interim relief and they were able to apply under all categories of seats. However, 2022 batch students were not lucky enough and they did not get any interim relief. The Court case finally came to a conclusion on 3 Feb 2023.

Even though SC has given a favourable decision to the existing OCIs, NTA's NEET 2023 bulletin created further confusion as they were still following the Mar 2021 Union Government Gazette notification. This created confusion and anxiety among the OCI candidates. In this context, NTA has released a corrigendum on 15 April 2023. We discuss about this corrigendum and what it means for the OCIs in this video.
