A stirring glimpse into the Ptack family on the occasion of their son Adam's bar mitzvah, this 5 minute short was shot at Congregation Dorshei Emet in Montreal, Canada, and in the family's home.
The bar mitzvah boy is followed at different points in his studies, and is candid about his coming of age experience; "I'm growing older, and I'm not their little boy any more" confirms Adam. We also hear from the Adam's parents, Allan and Sharon, and his kid brother Josh, who wonders how Adam will change as a result of the ceremony.
Cantor Heather Batchelor and Rabbi Ron Aigen also share their thoughts on this traditional rite of passage, which is somewhat updated at the reconstructionist shul Dorshei Emmet.
A delightful snapshot of a Jewish family's contemporary expression of an ancient custom.
