If you're buying a stock that's steadily uptrending … but it has no volume … you'll get terrible fills. Worse, you won’t be able to exit. You gotta trade liquid stocks.

Whether you’re trading OTCs, Nasdaq stocks, or NYSE stocks, you want to scan for stocks with the most volume.

Why should you care about volume or liquidity? It’s basic supply and demand. More volume means more buyers … Which leads to more potential for your patterns — like the VWAP-hold, dip and rip, or 52-week breakouts.

When you run your screener you want to focus on the highest volume stocks. These days, that can be a lot of stocks. So how can you filter the list down to a more manageable number?

Keep tweaking that volume. Run a scan for 50 million shares on the day. Still have 20+ stocks on that list? Run another for 100 million shares on the day.

Adjust that volume until you have about 10 stocks on your list. You want to keep it simple. That can give you more time to properly research. Choosing stocks in your favorite sectors or with your favorite chat patterns can further help.

Then you create your trade plan. Remember, you’ve got to have a stop and stick to it!
