The Italian Wars: Causes and Results of the Largest Conflict of the 16th Century

The Italian Wars are almost 50 years of history when Europe fought on the Apennine Peninsula. In addition to the fact that the Italian principalities and independent cities divided territories among themselves, the Pope, French kings, the Habsburgs, the British and even the Ottomans intervened in the conflict.

This series of more than ten wars marked the transition of Europe from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. During this period, the sides changed many times, as did the technology of war. Mercenaries with pikes and early firearms replaced mounted knights. The intrigues of rulers, daring attacks, betrayal of allies and unexpected agreements — all this in a new video about the Italian Wars.
