Associate Professor Joanna Fadyl, co-director of the Centre for Person Centred Research at AUT University in Auckland, presents at a NZRA 'Rehab Conversation'.
Disabled people are positioned in current discourse as wanting and needing to be employed, while facing an enduring problem that maintaining and obtaining work can be a struggle. Current government policies designed to address this skirt around discrimination and place the emphasis on individual actors - including disabled people, employers and civil servants - to 'solve' how inclusion in work can be realised. Discussing her recent policy analysis, Jo will review how those involved in vocational rehabilitation could use a critical analysis of these policies to advocate for change that challenges our broader work structures, not just employers and disabled people, to strive for equity.
