Built with the vision of creating a zero-carbon, zero-waste city, Masdar City integrates cutting-edge architecture, renewable energy systems, and smart infrastructure. The city’s design maximizes natural ventilation and shade, reducing the need for air conditioning in the desert climate. Narrow streets, traditional Arabic architectural elements, and modern materials work together to keep temperatures cooler.
Masdar City is powered largely by renewable energy, including one of the largest photovoltaic installations in the Middle East. It also promotes electric and autonomous transportation, with electric vehicles and driverless pods replacing conventional cars in many areas.
Beyond its environmental goals, Masdar City serves as a research and business hub. It hosts the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and numerous startups and global companies focused on sustainability, energy efficiency, and green technology.
