E2 Camper Repair Part 1, Whiffletree. I’d like to pre-apologize for my rants and ramblings in this video. This E2 Camper has been such a huge source of frustration over the last decade; I find it difficult to talk about it without expressing my contempt for the manufacture and mechanics who share fault in its premature dilapidation. I will try to better control my frustration and share more informative content over the next
several videoed stages of the Evolution 2 Camper repairs..
What in the world is a whiffletree? The whiffletree is the crossbar, with an attached nut that accepts the acme rod which passes through the middle of it. This crossbar is where the cables from all four corners are connected. The acme rod that passes through the middle of the bar acts as a jack-screw which raises and lowers the camper top when turned. According to the manufacturer these part together make up the whiffletree. The point of this video is the show the importance of the thrust-bearing to prevent bending the jack-screw. If the screw can't turn, the top doesn't move.
