Could An AI Agent Take My Online Class?
Date: (Tuesday) January 13, 2026
Guest Speakers
Anna Haney-Withrow, Florida SouthWestern State College
Tim Mousel, Lone Star College
Jillian Patch, Florida SouthWestern State College
Description:
A working group representing faculty, instructional design, IT, and administration set out to explore the potential of online courses to be disrupted by AI agents working on behalf of students. Rather than relying on theory alone, we engaged in active experimentation. Through working sessions and honest dialogue, we’ve surfaced practical, course-level strategies that may disrupt AI agents while enhancing the learning experience for students. This session invites others into the conversation, sharing design tactics and lessons learned from a collaborative inquiry into what it takes to keep humans at the center of online education.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Describe how open, cross-role experimentation can surface practical insights into AI-related challenges in online learning.
Identify and apply simple course design strategies that disrupt AI agents without burdening students.
Engage in collaborative inquiry and iterative testing as a method for strengthening academic integrity and authentic learning.
