WE NEED TO SHOW YOU This Ridiculous Pump Fix is all about Blaine replacing the bearings on our raw water pump… using whatever he could find on the boat. We were heading south from Alaska when the pump started making a horrible grinding sound and spitting rust everywhere. That’s when Blaine decided it was time to fix it — his way.

We didn’t have the right pullers, presses, or tools you’re supposed to use for a job like this. So Blaine reached for two screwdrivers, a bit of creativity, and the only lube we had onboard. It turned into a full-on gong show in the engine room, but somehow his repair worked.

If you’ve ever owned an old boat, you know that sometimes you just have to make things happen with what you’ve got. This is one of those fixes — messy, awkward, and surprisingly effective. Come along as we replace the pump bearings in true Blaine style and keep Tangaroa moving down the coast.
