Here I show you how to make a vase from a slab of wood....using a scroll saw. Idea made famous through Carole Rothman.
Somehow I lost the recording of me cutting the center pine ring (cut with table square with the blade and same circumference as the widest point of vase top and bottom sections). The same recording had the cutting of the neck (square to table, same circumference as smallest ring at top of vase) and the mouth, repeat of smallest angled ring at top of vase before the neck was added.
The calculations I mentioned in the captions of the video are as follows:
For a 1" thick piece of wood with a 1" ring width..,set table at 45˚, for the 1/2" ring width it's 28˚, for 3/8" ring width it's 22˚, and for the 1/4" it's 15˚.
Wood thickness 1/2 inch (13 mm) 1/2" ring width, set table to 45˚
For 3/8" ring width, set table to 38˚, for 1/4" ring width, set table to 28˚.
For 3/4 inch thick wood: 1/2" ring width, set table to 34˚. For 3/8 ring width, set table to 28˚. For 1/4" ring width, set table to 20˚.
I chose 1/2" ring width to give myself lots of sanding room.
