In this video, I take on a full restoration of a rare vintage Peugeot bike — but with a twist: I don’t repaint the frame. Instead, I keep all the original paint, decals, and character intact, and focus on restoring every single part around it. From overhauling the bottom bracket and headset to rebuilding the wheels, cleaning every last bolt, and tracking down era-correct components, this is a true nuts-and-bolts revival.
This Peugeot might not be the most famous bike ever made, but it represents a fascinating piece of cycling history — and it's worth saving. I go through every detail of the restoration process:
Stripping down the bike to the bare frame
Cleaning and polishing the original paint without damaging its patina
Servicing and re-greasing all bearings
Adjusting cantilever brakes (yes, they're just as annoying as you remember)
Bringing back to life components that hadn’t spun freely in decades
The goal was to make it ride like new without making it look new. If you’re into vintage mountain bikes, bike restoration, or just want to see some satisfying before-and-afters, you’ll enjoy this one.
Let me know what you think — would you have repainted it? Or would you have done the same and preserved the soul of the bike?
