The R01, R21 and R03 are the three most common NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs). The R01 is considered the “gold standard” of NIH grants. The small R03 and exploratory/developmental R21 grants should not be considered as “mini-R01s” but rather serve a specific purpose for investigators.
Our presenter has had multiple R01 and R21 grants and extensive experience reviewing these types of grant applications and provides the following:
• A basic overview of the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities, including the difference between Parent Announcements (investigator-initiated) and Program Announcements/Request for Applications (PAs/RFAs).
• Important differences between the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities.
• Whether the R01, R21 or R03 is the right funding opportunity for your project.
