I studied for 1.5 years at GenkiJacs Language School in Fukuoka, Japan. During this time I studied for (and passed) the JLPT N3 and N2, did part-time jobs, made local friends, traveled around the country, and so much more. It was a whirlwind of 18 months, but an experience I recommend for anyone who is eager to learn the language, wants to experience a new culture, or looking for a challenge.
