薏米多用以煲水或煲湯。薏米水一般適用於身體當下偏濕，或天氣潮濕時飲用。中醫角度認為，濕邪有內濕、外濕之分，內濕多由經常飲食寒涼引起，外濕多由天氣潮濕引起。脾喜燥惡濕，身體一旦有「濕」，便容易影響脾運化水液的功能，引起水濕停聚，頭重身重、水腫、腹瀉、關節腫痛不利、便粘廁、白帶白稠過多等。另外也有機會影響脾運化營養的功能，如營養不能升到頭部，便容易犯睏。

薏米水可以幫助身體把多餘水分從小便排走，也可以透過健脾功能，使脾運化能力提升，將水分及營養輸送到身體有需要的地方。
