Fr. Columba Stewart, Executive Director of HMML, describes the first printed Arabic Gospels. The Gospels were printed in Rome in 1590/1591 for the use of Christians in the Middle East. They were printed books like this that brought Western interpretations of Biblical stories to Eastern Africa. The Arabic Gospels were designed by the French typographer Robert Granjon. This text also contains engravings that are replicas of engravings that were originally done by Albrecht Dürer.
