Happy Second Advent!
Performed on a foot-pumped organ built by Pehr Zacharias Strand (1826) with a melodica introduced as the second manual in Lycke Church, Sweden.
I’ve found it incredibly fun to discover that a melodica alongside the organ can offer opportunities to play a touch more expressively and, moreover, can quickly and easily transform a single-manual historical organ into a “two-manual” one! This way of playing with a melodica opens up the potential for historical organs, like this charming Strand organ in Lycke, to accommodate a much broader two-manual repertoire—a discovery I’ve found absolutely delightful!
It’s truly enjoyable to work with living air in the playing, combining the melodica and a foot-pumped organ. A bit tricky at first, sure, but once you get the hang of it, it’s quite addictive! 😅
You really have to stay focused with all the pumping and blowing, but there’s such joy in working with living air!
I truly love this Strand organ, and with the melodica added, the possibilities for fun and creativity are endless!
