We visit Dun Carloway Broch, one of the tallest surviving brochs in Scotland, built around 2,000 years ago on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis.
The episode begins at a local community shop and café, where a chance conversation leads to an unexpected moment of kindness. Outside, we meet a couple cycling the islands who’ve run into trouble with their bike, and Keith helps get them moving again.
From there, we head to the broch, starting at the visitor centre before walking up to the tower itself. As we explore, we talk about who may have built it, why it still stands, and what daily life here might once have looked like.
Later, we discuss the growing number of cruise ships and coach parties arriving on the Isle of Lewis — and what that means for small communities and fragile historic sites.
We end the day at our overnight campervan park-up, cooking a simple meal and taking in the view — the kind of quiet moment that reminds us why we travel this way.
