Governance is something that changes and one of the terms we are hearing a lot more about now is “purpose” or in some cases “social purpose.” This word is replacing the talk about mission and vision. I am happy about this. The definitions of mission and vision were all over the place. I tell people I don’t care how you define mission and vision, you just need to have them.
I think more people are going to be able to understand your purpose. What is the reason for your organization to exist? That is an interesting conversation sometimes. I have asked service clubs, like the Kinsmen, Rotary, Lions Club, etc. “what do you do that is different from all the other service clubs?” Maybe if we understood your purpose we would know why you exist.
